Western Wisconsin authorities have released the name of the motorcyclist killed this past weekend after crashing on Interstate 94.
The St. Croix County sheriff’s office on Tuesday identified the motorcyclist as 35-year-old Steven R. Benner of Wilson, Wis. He died Saturday morning after wrecking his 2014 Yamaha motorcycle near milepost 14 on the highway in the Town of Pleasant Valley.
Sheriff deputies were called to the scene about 6:11 a.m. Saturday to a report of a motorcycle crash. Motorists told the deputies they found Benner’s body lying in the roadway.
Investigators said it appears Benner was attempting to stop, possibly to avoid hitting something in the roadway, when resulted in him losing control of the motorcycle, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He died at the scene, according to the St. Croix County medical examiner.
