Nurse Shot, Killed Inside Jefferson Hospital, 2 Officers Injured Follo…

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A nurse was shot and killed inside Jefferson Hospital in Center City early Monday morning. Police say the speculate, a 55-year-old-man wearing scrubs, shot a 43-year-old male nurse on the hospital’s 9th floor just after midnight.

Police say the speculate worked at the hospital as a nursing assistant, but it’s nevertheless unknown how the two knew each other.

Shortly after the shooting, the speculate drove off in a U-Haul truck. Police were notified of a male waving a large gun, and they later located the speculate and the truck near Parkside method in West Philadelphia

Once police arrived, the gunman and police got into a shootout in a wooded area near School of the Future on the 4000 block of Parkside method, according to authorities.

Two officers were shot in the incident. One who was hit in the elbow will require surgery, while the other suffered a graze wound to his confront. They are both in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the speculate was hit in the upper body and the neck, according to police.

“When the officers arrived there, four of our 16th district officers encountered the male,” Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said. “The male who was the shooter fired at the officers, and four of the officers returned fire. We learned that he was wearing body armor and was carrying multiple weapons in addition to the long gun, which was believed to be an AR-15. He was also carrying some form of a handgun, a semi-automatic handgun.”

Mayor Jim Kenney arrived at Penn Presbyterian, but he didn’t speak to the media.

This is the second active shooter since Friday when a man walked into an office in North Philadelphia and shot and killed another man.
