Revelatory Dreams

In order to ascertain the voice of God, we must cultivate an intimate relationship with God and we must commit to obey Him. We must also test every prophesying, dreams or visions with truth from bible.

One rule we could conclude from the examples of dreams mentioned in the Bible is that true dreams from God are always good for the dreamer or other people. God breaks into a situation with predictive method. God promised not to keep up back what he is going to do. He would tell His servants. He also hates people who misuse His name. False prophets speak messages in His name while they did not receive any revelation from God. He severely rebuked this in the book of Jeremiah.

The first book of Corinthians chapter 14 verse 3: he that prophesies speaks unto men to edification, exhortation and comfort. All dreams and visions should abide these criteria. Real revelations bring life, hope and love. It helps the dreamer with guidance. It delivers someone from bondage. It may be a turning point of a situation, the answer for a perplexed man.

The wise men we often see in Christmas plays who offered gold, incense and myrrh to Jesus, once had a dream that benefited thousands and thousands of people. When they observed a star in the sky, they knew a great king is born. They came to Jerusalem and saw Herod the king of that time. Herod wanted to kill Jesus. After the wise men found baby Jesus, they were instructed by the Lord in a dream not to return to Herod. This historical dream from God is very advantageous, both to the dreamers and other people.

The Lord often communicates with His prophets with dreams and visions. A famous example is the story of Daniel the prophet. At that time, Israelites were captured and live in Babylon. The king Nebuchadnezzar rules them. A day he had a dream and troubled by it. He commanded his sorcerers and fortune tellers to give the interpretation without telling them the content of the dream. He did not have a satisfactory answer consequently he ordered to slain all of him, including Daniel. The Lord then gave Daniel a vision in the night about the dream and the interpretation. The vision saved not only Daniel but many people’s life. More importantly, it manifested the glory and wisdom of the Lord!

As we see in the above incidents, dreams, visions or other revelations from God always bring good. The Lord makes everything works together for the good of the people who love Him. Messages from Him should be comforting, loving, brings hope and justice, because these are the attributes of the God of the most high. Encounters that bring the opposite, however amazing they are, are not from God but the enemies.
